Our Legacy

Hamdard’s journey began in 1906 when Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed founded a small clinic in Delhi – Hamdard Dawakhana, dedicated to Unani medicine. After his passing in 1922, his wife Rabea Begum nurtured the institution until their son, Hakeem Abdul Hameed, assumed leadership. Under his guidance, Hamdard transformed into a public charitable trust in 1948. Recognized for his contributions with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards, Hakeem Abdul Hameed laid a strong foundation of service and education. His son, Abdul Mueed, modernized the organization, achieving significant growth. The legacy continues today through the leadership of Abdul Majeed and Asad Mueed, upholding Hamdard’s mission of health and humanitarian service.
